A foster parent manual is given to all foster families. The manual contains policy specific to the safety, permanency and well-being of our foster children. The manual incorporates DFCS policy and safety standards as well. Foster parents are encouraged to refer to the manual to answer routine questions and concerns about the do’s and don’ts in fostering. This manual covers everything from school attendance, overnight visits, cultural enrichment, and haircuts. Georgia’s Foster Care Program seeks to strengthen families, protect children from further abuse and neglect, and ensure permanency for every child in care. When it is necessary for children to experience out-of-home placements due to safety threats in their own homes, the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) is committed to ensuring their safety and well-being. To fulfill this commitment, DFCS recruits and works closely with relatives and members of the community interested in serving as caregivers for this population of children. To maintain accountability and continuity of care, DFCS has created policy specific to all types of caregivers. The policy contains Federal and State policies. At the time of initial approval and throughout the partnership with DFCS caregivers will have access to policy.
