March 4, 2019It is safe to say that "all" children that enter into foster care have experienced some form of trauma; be it mild, moderate or severe. In the United States, there are over two thirds of children that experience some form of trauma such as death of a love one, separation from caregiver, violence, abuse, and neglect. Trauma is one of the many barriers to a child's ability to succeed socially, emotionally, and academically. That is why it is critical for parents and family members to understand the importance of building resiliency in their child so that that child can grow up to be a mentally stable, well-adjusted young adult. This 1 hours webinar will give foster parents the skills that they will need to build resiliency in their child.

There are a lot of resources out there to help children deal with separation and loss due to being separated from their parents and family members. This 1-hours webinar was created specifically for foster parents. Parents will learn techniques on how to deal with their own separation and loss so that they can better sever the children in their home.

March 20, 2019 – March 21, 2019Sex and relationships are an important part of adolescent development and can influence youth outcomes. In order to make healthy and responsible decisions, young people need support from the adults in their lives. However, adults and caregivers frequently feel ill prepared to initiate these conversations. Some adults and caregivers are afraid they will share too much or not enough, while others believe if they give information children will experiment prematurely. The good news for foster parents, caregivers, and case managers is that there is a lot you can do to positively influence adolescents’ decisions about these topics. As invested community members, this training will also educate participants on the research related to Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) (child sex trafficking), victimization statistics in Georgia, and will prepare participants to spread awareness and teach others.Georgia’s Personal Responsibility Education Program (GA-PREP) is pleased to host a series of 2-day trainings designed to help adults become “Connected Caregivers”. These trainings have been designed specifically for foster parents, CCI and CPA caregivers, and case managers. Through funding from the DHS/DFCS PREP program, these trainings are being offered for FREE for the first 50 registrants.
Registration includes two full days of training and participants are required to attend both days:

March 21, 2019This webinar will focus on understanding how to assess the levels of self-esteem in children ten years and younger and provide an understanding of effective interventions caregivers can implement to build their self-worth and self-confidence. How a child perceives him or herself is a key component to how well a child can manage in school, at home, and later in life. A defining factor for self-esteem building in children has less to do with whether the child is adopted or a non-adoptee, and A LOT to do with how caregivers interact with the child. Whether you are fostering/adopting the most well-behaved, well-adjusted child, or you're handling numerous challenges with a child, this webinar can begin to help you to support the child in your care blossom into a positive, self-assured individual.
