Connected Caregiver Training - Macon, Georgia

March 20, 2019 March 21, 2019

Sex and relationships are an important part of adolescent development and can influence youth outcomes. In order to make healthy and responsible decisions, young people need support from the adults in their lives.  However, adults and caregivers frequently feel ill prepared to initiate these conversations.  Some adults and caregivers are afraid they will share too much or not enough, while others believe if they give information children will experiment prematurely.  The good news for foster parents, caregivers, and case managers is that there is a lot you can do to positively influence adolescents’ decisions about these topics. As invested community members, this training will also educate participants on the research related to Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) (child sex trafficking), victimization statistics in Georgia, and will prepare participants to spread awareness and teach others.

Georgia’s Personal Responsibility Education Program (GA-PREP) is pleased to host a series of 2-day trainings designed to help adults become  “Connected Caregivers”. These trainings have been designed specifically for foster parents, CCI and CPA caregivers, and case managers. Through funding from the DHS/DFCS PREP program, these trainings are being offered for FREE for the first 50 registrants.

Registration includes two full days of training and participants are required to attend both days:

Day 1: Talking to Teens About Sex & Healthy Relationships

Day 2: Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC)/Beyond Cultural Competency: Working with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer & Questioning (LGBTQ) Youth in the Sex Education Environment
